HFES Event -
Tour of a Universally Designed Kitchen and Bathroom
What: Dr. Meg Teaford, Assistant Professor in the OSU School of Allied
Medical Professions, is offering a tour of a universally designed kitchen and
bathroom, which has been built at the Molly Caren Agricultural Center near
London, Ohio (west of Columbus). This is about a 30-minute drive from the Ohio
State campus.
"Universal Design" is an approach to the design of all products and environments
to be usable by everyone, to the greatest extent possible, regardless of age,
ability, or situation. It serves people who are young or old, with excellent or
limited abilities, in ideal or difficult circumstances. Universal design
benefits everyone by accommodating limitations.
Dr. Teaford and her colleagues are offering this opportunity to all HFES
members, to see, experience, and try out the universal design features of this
model kitchen and bathroom. She will explain many of the features of these
rooms, as well as discuss ways in which they can be used further for research
and student projects.
Time: Monday October 17th at 5:30 p.m.
Directions from Columbus: Take Interstate 70 west to Route 42 (London
exit). Go south on 42 and turn right on Route 40. Go through the village of
Lafayette and turn right on Route 38 into the parking lot for the Molly Caren
Agricultural Center (where the Farm Science Review is held). Drive to the
McCormick Building, located at the corner of Friday and Market Streets. It is
located right next to the Utzinger gardens. There is a map available at
http://fsr.osu.edu.
