Guest speaker: Dr. Marvin J. Dainoff (dainofmj@muohio.edu)

Dr. Dainoff is a professor of Psychology at the Miami University, Oxford, OH and the President-elect of HFES. His list of publications and areas of interest appear on his website: http://www.units.muohio.edu/psychology/people/dainofmj.html.

An ecological approach to ergonomic problems: It will be argued that ecological psychology provides a principled approach to a integrated framework for ergonomics. As such, it is applicable to a wide range of ergonomic problems. Such an integrated approach is needed to deal with problem of fractionation of human factors/ergonomics --e.g., statements which appear in the literature that usability has nothing to do with physical ergonomics, and that HCI is not part of ergonomics.  Specific research examples will be provided.
