Speaker: Matthew Weinger, MD Norman Ty Smith Chair in Patient Safety and Medical Simulation Brief Description: Using specific medical devices as case examples, Dr. Weinger will discuss issues in user interface design for the medical domain, with an emphasis on safety and usability principles. He also will present a structured approach to user interface design. Biosketch: Matthew B. Weinger, MS, MD Dr. Weinger is the Norman Ty Smith Chair in Patient Safety and Medical Simulation and a Professor of Anesthesiology, Biomedical Informatics, and Medical Education at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He also serves as the Director of the Vanderbilt Center for Perioperative Research in Quality, Head of the Center for Medical Simulation, and the Co-Director of the Middle Tennessee Center for Improving Patient Safety. He is a staff physician and a member of the Health Services R&D Service at the Middle Tennessee VA Healthcare System.
