TITLE: “VISUAL INFORMATION ACQUISITION IN DRIVING: EXAMPLES OF DRIVER EYE SCANNING BEHAVIOR RESEARCH STUDIES CONDUCTED AT OHIO UNIVERSITY” 

ABSTRACT 

The presentation will address how human visual information acquisition in general and specifically in driving works. The preview time or preview distance concept as a fundamental driver need will be proposed. What can driver eye scanning behavior tell us as vehicle designers or traffic engineers, how do we measure driver eye scanning behavior and how do we measure driver eye scanning behavior will be discussed on hand of a number of examples. Other methods to obtain insight into driver eye scanning behavior, problems with conducting driver eye scanning studies and typical applications of driver eye scanning results and publications will be presented.
