Title: Applying Ergonomics in the Real World Date: Tuesday, 3 Feb 2009 Q: What do: Assembling automobiles, towing coal barges, using sign language, and drinking from infant sippy cups all have in common? A: Ergonomic design principles were used to make improvements in each of these activities. In this presentation, Dr. Gary Allread will discuss these and other projects, where he applied ergonomics principles for a wide range of client applications. He also will discuss the specific ergonomics issues that were addressed, methods used to analyze the situations, and results from ergonomics interventions. Bio: For more than 20 years, Dr. Gary Allread has been applying ergonomics principles to a wide range of jobs, work environments, and consumer products. Gary received his PhD from The Ohio State University, where he studied industrial ergonomics and biomechanics. He is now the Program Director for OSU's Institute for Ergonomics. A Certified Professional Ergonomist, Gary also has published numerous articles related to injury development and prevention in such journals such as Ergonomics, Theoretical Issues in Ergonomics Science, and Spine. |
